38m Classic Gulet (1994) — Kitchen & Laundry Upgrade

A 38-metre classic wooden gulet built in 1994, still in active Aegean charter service. These vessels have a particular atmosphere that owners and guests value — solid timber joinery, traditional proportions, a feeling of craftsmanship that modern production yachts don't replicate. The owner wanted modern reliability and lower running costs, but wasn't willing to sacrifice any of that character.

The brief ruled out any structural work, which meant working within the existing galley and below-deck laundry spaces exactly as they were. Equipment selection became critical: everything had to fit, draw less power than the old setup, and run quietly on a wooden hull where noise and vibration transmit easily.

For the galley, we specified a Dometic MCC2 marine induction cooktop, an Eno Ocean 2 compact marine oven, an Isotherm Cruise 195 dual-compartment refrigerator, and a Vitrifrigo C75L low-energy freezer. All compact, all 12/24V compatible, all designed specifically for marine use.

The laundry room received a Splendide WD2100XC combined washer-dryer — a single unit that handles both cycles, saving the space that separate machines would require. It sits on a custom vibration-isolation platform to prevent transmission through the wooden hull.

The project took three weeks over winter with no structural changes made to the vessel. Energy consumption across galley and laundry dropped by approximately 45%, and the owner reported that noise from the laundry area was no longer noticeable in the cabins.
