Ro-Ro Ferry — Industrial Laundry Facility

A 600-passenger ro-ro ferry operating between Turkey and Italy was outsourcing all its linen processing to external laundry services at each port of call. The costs were high, the turnarounds were unpredictable, and the operator had no control over quality or scheduling.

The solution was a purpose-built on-board laundry facility: three independent workstations, each with its own washer, dryer, and pressing setup, so the system could continue running even if one unit needed attention.

We designed the layout around the available below-deck space, specifying three Primus FX 300 frequency-controlled washing machines (30 kg capacity each), three Primus T 30 sensor-controlled dryers, two Chicago Dryer Satin 160 cylinder mangles, and four Electrolux HS10 steam ironing stations. Total installed capacity: 1,200+ kg per day at 78 kW on 400V/50Hz three-phase supply.

Installation took place at the Trieste shipyard during the vessel's 12-day annual maintenance period. The system has been running without fault since commissioning. The operator no longer depends on external laundry services and estimates annual savings of approximately €18,000.
