Laundry Systems
Marine laundry systems engineered for charter intensity.
Industrial washers, dryers, mangles, and ironing stations for superyachts and commercial vessels. High-capacity, anti-vibration, energy-optimised.
A marine laundry system is the full installation of industrial-grade washing, drying, and flat-linen ironing equipment aboard a superyacht or commercial vessel. Unlike a shore laundry, a ship's laundry room requires vibration isolation, tolerance for marine humidity, and 24-hour continuous operating cycles. Vista Marine manages the complete process from capacity analysis to turnkey installation for motor yachts, sailing yachts, and commercial vessels.
Capacity Planning
How Much Laundry Can Your Yacht Actually Produce?
Undersized laundry rooms are among the most common and most avoidable operational problems on charter yachts. The calculation starts with daily linen production weight — not machine marketing specs. The table below reflects real-world linen weights for a charter operation, not hotel averages.
| Vessel Size | Guest Cabins | Crew Berths | Est. Daily Linen (kg) | Recommended Washer Capacity | Mangle Required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30–40 m | 3–4 | 5–8 | 20–35 kg | 1 × 18 kg washer | No — folded table linen sufficient |
| 40–55 m | 4–6 | 8–12 | 35–55 kg | 1 × 23 kg + 1 × 18 kg | Optional — 1.2 m roll mangle advisable |
| 55–70 m | 6–8 | 12–16 | 55–80 kg | 2 × 23 kg washers | Yes — Chicago Dryer or Schulthess 1.4 m |
| 70–90 m | 8–10 | 16–22 | 80–120 kg | 2–3 × 23 kg washers | Yes — 1.6 m cylinder mangle recommended |
| 90 m+ | 10+ | 22+ | 120 kg+ | 3–4 × 23–35 kg washers | Yes — 1.8 m mangle + dedicated press |
| Estimates based on Mediterranean charter operation: full guest complement, daily towel change, every-other-day bed linen. Crew linen included. Add 20% for vessels with large beach club towel inventory. | |||||

Equipment
Marine Laundry Equipment We Specify
Every machine in our portfolio is specified for marine operation — not residential or hotel-adapted. The distinction matters in vibration characteristics, IP-rating for damp spaces, and 24-hour-per-day duty cycles.
Miele Marine — PW Series Washers & PT Heat Pump Dryers
Miele's PW 5065 and PW 6065 marine-specification front-loaders are among the quietest professional washers available — a critical parameter when the laundry room is located adjacent to crew cabins or a guest stairway. Inverter-controlled direct-drive motors eliminate transmission noise and reduce vibration at the base plate. The PT 7136 Vario heat-pump tumble dryer recovers condenser heat and reduces electrical demand by approximately 50% compared to a resistance-element condenser dryer — a meaningful saving on a 24/7 charter operation running two machines simultaneously.
Electrolux Professional — Marine Laundry Systems
Electrolux Professional's W5180H (18 kg) and W5240H (24 kg) washers are high-spin (up to 1,200 rpm) hard-mount machines designed for installation on anti-vibration bases in structural bilge spaces. High extract speed reduces dryer time and energy consumption. The myPRO connected controller allows remote monitoring of cycle progress, fault codes, and dosing system status from a tablet — useful for stewardesses managing back-to-back service turnarounds.
Primus — FX Series Heavy-Duty Washers
Primus FX series soft-mount washers use built-in suspension to absorb unbalanced loads — the machine manages its own vibration without transferring it to the hull structure. This makes them viable for installation on deck-plate floors where welding anti-vibration bases through to structural frames is not possible. The FX65 (6.5 kg) through FX240 (24 kg) range covers tender linen up to full yacht operations. Stainless-drum construction and sealed electronics tolerate the high-humidity spaces typical of compact yacht arrangements.
Chicago Dryer — Cylinder Mangles for Flat Linen
The cylinder mangle is the single piece of equipment most commonly omitted from yacht laundry room designs and most regretted by chief stewardesses within the first season. A Chicago Dryer 1.4 m or 1.6 m roller ironer processes flat sheets, duvet covers, and tablecloths at 50–70 metres per minute — work that otherwise requires two hours of hand-pressing. Chicago Dryer marine installations use anti-vibration mounts under the frame and stainless roller covers. We have installed these on vessels from 55 metres upwards in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Caribbean.
Schulthess — Compact Integrated Solutions
Schulthess Spirit stack configurations are specified on vessels in the 35–50 metre range where a full-height laundry room is not available but a two-machine column can be accommodated in a utility space. The Spirit series runs exceptionally quiet and includes heat-pump drying in a compact footprint. Their service network across Western Europe and Turkey makes support straightforward for vessels wintering in Palma or Göcek.
Grandimpianti — Commercial Tumble Dryers
Grandimpianti's GX series gas and electric tumble dryers are specified for larger vessels where the towel volume demands rapid tumble drying beyond heat-pump drum capacity. Their OPL (on-premise laundry) range is rated for continuous commercial operation and withstands the condensation cycling in laundry rooms with intermittent ventilation. For vessels with LPG availability, the GX gas dryer reduces electrical load while maintaining drying speed.
Engineering Detail
Anti-Vibration Engineering: Why It Matters
A domestic washing machine weighs 80 kg and vibrates at spin frequencies of 15–20 Hz. A professional marine washer weighs 180–280 kg and spins at up to 1,200 rpm — 20 Hz — with unbalanced linen loads that can generate impulse forces exceeding 400 kg. Transferred through a steel hull, this creates broadband structure-borne noise audible in cabins three decks away and fatigue stress on welded hull frames.
The solution is a correctly designed anti-vibration mounting system under the machine base. Vista Marine fabricates 316L stainless inertia bases — a heavy welded plate construction — mounted on tuned rubber-metal isolators whose natural frequency is well below the machine's operating spin frequency. This creates dynamic isolation: the machine vibrates on its own mass, and the isolators attenuate the forces reaching the hull by 90% or more.
For soft-mount machines (Primus FX series, certain Miele variants), the machine's internal suspension provides primary isolation and the base acts as a secondary stage. We calculate the required isolator specification for each installation based on machine weight, spin speed, and the structural mass of the deck on which the base is mounted.
Heat-Pump vs Condenser Dryer: The Real Difference
A condenser dryer removes moisture by passing air over a heating element and condensing moisture in a heat exchanger; it consumes 4–5 kWh per cycle. A heat-pump dryer uses a refrigerant circuit to heat the process air and cool the condenser — recovering heat that would otherwise be exhausted; it consumes 1.5–2.5 kWh per cycle. The payback on the premium cost of a heat-pump dryer is typically 12–18 months on an actively chartered vessel. The trade-off is cycle time: heat-pump dryers run 10–15 minutes longer per cycle and are less tolerant of heavily water-retaining materials such as waffle towels.
Inverter Motors & Noise Reduction
Conventional induction-motor washers run at fixed speeds controlled by mechanical clutch or transmission. Inverter (variable-frequency drive) motors accelerate and decelerate smoothly, without the mechanical shock that generates structure-borne noise. The ramp-up profile during spin acceleration is programmable in some machines — important for vessels where a particular drum speed coincides with a hull resonance frequency that amplifies rather than attenuates the vibration.
How We Work
The Laundry Project Process
Capacity Assessment
We calculate your actual daily linen production based on your charter programme, guest and crew complement, and linen inventory. This becomes the sizing brief for the equipment specification.
Space Survey & Design
We measure the laundry space, assess structural frames for inertia base attachment, review adjacent accommodation noise sensitivity, and produce a layout CAD with service connection points (water, drain, ventilation, electrical).
316L Base Fabrication
Anti-vibration inertia bases are fabricated in our Istanbul workshop to the calculated isolator specification. Bases are hot-dip galvanised or 316L depending on the space's exposure to bilge humidity and salt-air ingress.
Installation & Handover
Equipment is installed, services connected, and the system run through a full test cycle under load. Post-installation vibration measurements are taken at adjacent cabin bulkheads and compared to pre-installation baseline. Chief stewardess handover training is included.
