60m Motor Yacht — High-Capacity Laundry System

A 60-metre motor yacht carrying 12 guests and 8 crew. The existing laundry room had two problems: it wasn't keeping up with the volume of linen the vessel generated, and the noise and vibration from the machines was audible in the adjacent crew cabins.

The replacement brief was clear — more capacity, quieter, more energy-efficient — and the available floor space wasn't changing.

We specified a Miele PW 6180 18 kg industrial washer with an inverter motor (variable speed, significantly quieter than fixed-speed drum machines) and a matching Miele PT 8503 HP heat-pump dryer. The heat-pump dryer is the key piece: it recovers heat from the exhaust air and uses it to dry the next load, rather than generating fresh heat electrically. That's where most of the energy saving comes from. It also means no hot air discharge into the room — important for crew comfort and for the vessel's air conditioning load.

Both machines sit on a custom 316L stainless anti-vibration base, and the room was lined with acoustic insulation panels during the installation. An Electrolux HS10 vertical steam press completes the setup.

Daily laundry capacity doubled compared to the previous machines. Energy consumption across the laundry room dropped 55%. The crew's description of the vibration level: undetectable.
